Background of the Study
Entrepreneurship is widely recognized as a key driver of economic growth, job creation, and innovation. Youth entrepreneurship, in particular, has the potential to tackle unemployment, reduce poverty, and foster economic independence. However, in many developing regions, including Kano State, youth participation in entrepreneurship remains limited due to various structural, financial, and sociocultural barriers (Abdullahi & Musa, 2023).
Kano State is a vibrant commercial hub in Northern Nigeria, with abundant opportunities for entrepreneurial activities. Yet, many young people face significant challenges in venturing into business, ranging from lack of access to startup capital to inadequate mentorship and training programs (Garba & Ahmed, 2024). Addressing these barriers is essential to empower youth and foster inclusive economic growth in the state.
Statement of the Problem
Despite the increasing emphasis on entrepreneurship as a solution to youth unemployment, many young people in Kano State remain underrepresented in entrepreneurial activities. Key barriers such as limited access to funding, lack of entrepreneurial education, and societal expectations often discourage youth from pursuing business ventures. This situation not only stifles economic potential but also exacerbates issues of dependency and unemployment. Research on these barriers is necessary to develop targeted interventions (Yusuf & Bello, 2023).
